Well Now What?

God’s word never changes and it never will. God offers us mercy and forgiveness for the sins that we’ve committed, however, as a condition of our Salvation, we have to repent of our sins. In John 8:11, Jesus said: “Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” As Christians, we have to do our level best to walk away from the sinful lifestyle that we were living and never look back or we risk returning to our sinful lifestyles.

The apostle Paul discussed the need to be repentant and to turn away from our ungodly lusts, our sinful lifestyle that we were once in bondage to, and to live in freedom through Christ Jesus. See, before we fell to our knees before the cross and asked Jesus for forgiveness, we were slaves to sin because we didn't know any better. However, after we became believers and renounced all of our sin, the blood of Jesus cleansed us; we were made sinless, righteous, just like Jesus.

Hebrews 10 tells us that if we intentionally transgress, we’re trampling Jesus' sacrifice underfoot, we’re causing Jesus to die for us in vain. Put another way: Since we've been cleansed by the blood of Jesus, we can’t just keep on sinning and hope that God will look the other way or excuse our sins due to what society says we can do; He doesn’t and He won’t. That means no more smoking pot, drinking heavily or anything like that.

On the other hand, if you do slip up—as all of us do occasionally—take the sin to God, confess it to Him, renounce the sin, ask for His forgiveness, and get on with your life… don’t give the devil a foothold by beating yourself up over it. Remember that God is quick to forgive.

Now that Christ has set us free, now that he has opened the cell doors for us like he did for the apostles in Acts 5 and offered us a better way, we have to step out of our dark, dank, smelly prison cells into the light of day and let the awesome power of Christ transform us into children of light. Suggested Verses: Ezekiel 18: 21-32

About Easter

""Woman," he said, "why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?"

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him."

Jesus said to her, "Mary."

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which means Teacher)."(John 20:15-16, NIV)

Indeed, Christ had risen and in celebration of that glorious day when the Lord defeated death, we remember it by celebrating Easter. But is it okay to celebrate it by dying eggs and telling our kids that the Easter Bunny is real? Yes! Just like when we celebrate Christmas by giving each other gifts and telling our children the story about how our Savior was born, as long as the true meaning of Easter isn't lost, I say, rejoice in the Lord on Easter too.

One other thing I'd like to point out about the above verses: Notice how when Jesus called her name, she knew His voice so well that she immediately recognized Him? It is the same with us: when the Lord speaks to us, we know it's Him because we recognize His voice. In John 10:27, Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (KJV) Not only do we hear His voice, but we follow Him. In verse 28, the Lord said of all who follow Him: "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."

So this Easter, not only should we celebrate the fact that Christ Jesus gained victory over death when He rose from the dead, but we can also rejoice in the fact that no matter what happens, we're all in His hand.

Until Next Time...

About C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters

Hello! I just wanted to announce that on March 12 at 9:35 AM, I welcomed a granddaughter into the world! To the left is a picture of her... more will follow...

C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters published in 1942 really hits the nail on the head by describing what it really means to pick up one’s cross and follow the Lord. In one of Screwtape’s letters to his nephew Wormwood, he says: “He wants them to learn to walk and must therefore take away His hand; and if only the will to walk is really there He is pleased even with their stumbles. Do not be deceived, Wormwood. Our cause is never more in danger, than when a human, no longer desiring, but intending, to do our Enemy's will, looks round upon a universe from which every trace of Him seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been forsaken, and still obeys.”

Have you ever felt like God has forsaken you? As Screwtape says, there are times when God must take His hand from us so that we’ll learn how to walk in His ways. We please Him most by doing something that would be a great service to another, even if we don’t really want to do it. Some of the things we can to please God are to visit the residents in nursing homes, send Bibles to the U.S. troops, help feed the hungry, pass out blankets to the homeless, and give someone who is panhandling your spare change, even if you believe that the person doesn’t need it because everyone else has already given enough already. By doing these little things, not only are we brightening the world, one action at a time, but we’re also giving God reason to rejoice over us.

Until next time...

The Alarm Bells Are Ringing Loudly Enough In California To Be Heard Around The World

What in the world is Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger thinking? In a World Net Daily exclusive posted on February 07, 2008 titled “‘Mom,’ ‘dad,’ banned; now 600,000 students could go" written by Bob Unruh, we discover that the passing of SB 777 in California could result in children being kicked out of school or perhaps even sued for saying such innocuous terms as “mom and dad” or “husband and wife”.

“Karen England, chief of CRI, told WND that the law is not a list of banned words, including “mom” and “dad.” But she said the requirement is that the law bans discriminatory bias and the effect will be to ban such terminology. Having ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ promotes a discriminatory bias. You have to either get rid of ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ or include everything when talking about [parental issues],” she said. “They [promoters of sexual alternative lifestyles] do consider that discriminatory.””

So, what about the kids with the straight, or traditional parents?

You got it!

Those who are leading alternative lifestyles can freely discriminate against the traditional families all they want with no repercussions. Read the full article here: http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=55808

Making matters even worse for Christians in California is the fact that Phillip and Mary Long, who are taking the initiative with their children’s education by educating them at home, were ordered by the 2nd Appellate Court in Los Angeles to send their kids back to public schools on the basis that they are running an illegal private school.

In California, children are allowed to be home schooled if they’re enrolled in a private school or are tutored by a credentialed tutor. Despite the fact that Phillip and Mary Long have their children enrolled in a satellite program through the Sunland Christian School—which is an accredited school, by the way—and the school is overseeing them, the panel of judges has determined that the school’s independent study program is worthless. I dunno, but it seems like we might become a socialist state after all.
